Taiwanese Boba Tea Franchise Gong Cha To Open In San Diego

December 5, 2018

Opening its first San Diego location in the space that was briefly home to -21°C Snowflake in Kearny Mesa is Gong Cha, a Taiwan-based international chain with nearly 20 locations throughout California.

First established in Hong Kong in 2006, Gong Cha is now one of the world's largest boba tea chains over 1,500 locations worldwide. The franchise serves over fifty different drink varieties divided into seven types - House Specials, Brewed Tea, Milk Tea, Creative Mix, Coffee, Healthy Series, and Ice Smoothies. The menu also offers a build-your-own-drink option where customers can choose a tea base then add an array of toppings - like boba pearls, herbal jelly, pudding, or red beans. To finish the drink off, guests choose the desired sweetness and ice levels, from absolutely no sugar or ice to fully loaded. All teas are freshly brewed and pearls are cooked every 4 hours. Gong Cha also sells tea sets and tea in stores, and in some locations they also offer food, including Mochi Waffles. According to the website, the term Gong Cha refers to "an act of offering supreme quality teas to the Emperor" in ancient China.

Gong Cha is in the process of a huge California expansion that includes its first San Diego branch, which will be located at 4764 Convoy St, Unit C, in Kearny Mesa. More area outposts may be on the way. For more information, visit gong-cha-usa.com and check out the partial menu below.
