Cardiff Seaside Market Team To Open Crack Taco In San Diego's Mission Valley

February 9, 2019

The crew behind North County San Diego's popular Seaside Market is bringing its "Cardiff Crack" smoked tri-tip down to central San Diego with the opening of Crack Taco, a modern taco shop experience set to unveil later this year in Mission Valley.

Since 1985, the family-owned Cardiff Seaside Market has been a popular destination for prepared foods and grocery items - twice rated the number one gourmet grocery store in San Diego. Seaside Market entered as a vendor at the San Diego Padres' Petco Park in 2014 and now operated multiple stands within the stadium. Featuring a selection of local and artisan products, including the cult favorite “Cardiff Crack” tri-tip, Cardiff Seaside Market underwent a substantial expansion in 2016 with the assistance of then-Executive Chef James Montejano, who left the company last year to lead the culinary operations at San Diego-based RMD Group.

The Cardiff Seaside Market team has taken over the Mission Valley space that last housed TOGO's Sandwiches in the plaza that also houses a Chili's and Starbucks for the opening of Crack Taco. Billed as a "modern taco shop", Crack Taco will be outfitted with Día de los Muertos-inspired murals on the walls from local artist, Irieanna Sesma, and offer unique takes on classic Mexican foods. The eatery will serve a variety of tacos and burritos made with high-quality ingredients and fresh pressed tortillas, as well as offer a list of beer, wine and sangria. Expect the "Cardiff Crack" tri-tip to be implemented in many recipes, including nachos, burritos, rolled tacos, and more. Based on the success of the first location, more Crack Taco outposts may be opened around San Diego County.

Crack Taco is expected to unveil by this Spring at 4242 Camino del Rio North in San Diego's Mission Valley. For more information, visit cracktacoshop.com.
