Wrench & Rodent Owners Secure Location For Plant-Based Restaurant | The Plot To Open In Oceanside As Early As This Summer

March 21, 2019

We announced in late 2017 that the husband-and-wife powerhouse behind Oceanside's rockstar sushi destination Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub was in the process of seeking a location to open The Plot, a plant-based, no-waste restaurant and catering service. Well the dynamic duo has finally found the ideal spot and will open their all-vegan eatery in the 4,000 square-foot South Oceanside space that currently houses Hon Sushi.

From Davin & Jessica Waite, the married couple behind Oceanside's dual concepts Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub and The Whet Noodle, The Plot will be a “proudly plant-based” and “zero-waste-ethos” all-day restaurant that will operate as a coffee house, juice bar and cafe during the day with an eclectic and ever-changing, seasonal vegan menu during the evening hours. Jessica, who has been on a vegan diet for most of her adult life, has earned a reputation for her inventive vegan omakase offerings at Wrench and will implement those skills in full effect at The Plot.

In addition to an array of imaginative vegan sushi options like banana peel nigiri and tomato sashimi, The Plot will serve a full menu of dishes spanning from soups and salads, to pickled items and burritos. All parts of the plants will be utilized and there will be no vegan faux proteins used in any dish. The restaurant will maintain a vegan-only kitchen, with all produce secured from area farms, as well as San Diego's Specialty Produce.

"We currently own and operate two restaurants that are plant and seafood-centric," explained The Plot co-founder Jessica Waite. "We have been lucky enough to work with local farms and fishermen, and understand that the most sustainable and tastiest products are those that are sourced locally and seasonally. Davin has been offering vegan options on his menus since 2004, and believes strongly that moving in a plant-based direction is the right thing to do."

The Plot is currently offering its 100% vegan catering service throughout San Diego and hopes to open its full service restaurant by late summer/early fall. For more information,visit ThePlotRestaurant.com.
