Fish Guts To Bring Inventive Seafood Tacos To San Diego's Barrio Logan

April 10, 2019

An experienced local restaurateur with ties to a superstar Latin chef will soon open a fast-casual taqueria in San Diego's Barrio Logan. Fish Guts is expected to debut this summer with a menu centered around innovative seafood tacos.

Chef & restaurateur Pablo Becker has experience opening restaurants in San Diego's South County, including launching now-shuttered El Vitral in Chula Vista and opening an outpost of Venga Venga Cantina & Tequila bar in partnership with his cousin and mentor - famed Mexican chef Richard Sandoval. After moving to Chicago for a few years to assist his cousins in the kitchens at their Windy City-based restaurants, Becker is back and ready to bring something new to America's Finest City.

"After El Vitral, I took some time off from the industry and moved to Chicago for close to 6 years," explained Becker. "I felt like being in the kitchen cooking and was working out of my cousin's restaurants in Chicago, but I decided to come back to San Diego and give it another go."

Becker's next endeavor will be bringing Fish Guts to a 500+ square-foot storefront in San Diego's historic Barrio Logan community. The eatery will be decorated with urban graffiti with a rollup window and indoor/outdoor seating. The menu, which is still in development, will be based around a selection of signature seafood tacos developed by Becker, who will also be the restaurant's chef. There will be an artisanal beer list which will highlight Baja and Barrio Logan breweries, as well as beer cocktails and possibly a short list of California and Baja wines.

Fish Guts is expected to open as early as this July at 2222 Logan Avenue, #1, in Barrio Logan.
