25-Year-Old, Beijing-Based Shancheng Lameizi Hot Pot To Open San Diego Location

May 28, 2019

With more than 20 stores around the world, Chinese hot pot chain Shancheng Lameizi will bring its first location to San Diego later this year in the Kearny Mesa space currently occupied by Thai House Cuisine.

Founded in 1993 as a nine-table restaurant in Beijing, China, Shancheng Lameizi now has locations spread around China, as well as three outposts in California. The restaurants offer a menu centered around traditional Chongqing-style hot pots, a process that requires fresh-boiling the soup broths in-house.

To start, patrons choose from either spicy or bone broth bases, with the option of receiving a split half-and-half order, then diners are invited to select from a multitude of protein choices, ranging from Wagyu beef to pig brain, that are then cooked in the boiling cauldrons. The broths are described as offering "flavors of numbing, spicy, refreshing and delicious". In addition to a multitude of hot pot soup add-ons, each restaurant offers a buffet of more than 20 traditional Chinese snacks and a multitude of sauces. The San Diego outpost will also offer beer & wine.

Shancheng Lameizi aims to open by year's end at 4225 Convoy Street in San Diego's Kearny Mesa community. For more information, visit shanchenglameizi.com.
