Jolt'n Joe's Ends Nearly 23-Year Run In La Mesa After This Weekend

June 7, 2019

After nearly a quarter-century in business, rundown La Mesa sports bar Jolt'n Joe's, which also has a location in San Diego's Gaslamp, has announced it will close for business after tomorrow's service.

Philip Paccione opened Jolt'n Joes in La Mesa in 1996 followed by an outpost in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter in 2005. Jolt'n has established a less than stellar reputation for its seediness, cheap drinks, weekly in-house "Fist Combat" wrestling, and overall unkempt game tables and arcades. Last year, a 27-year-old man died after playing "some sort of punching game with a friend" inside the downtown location. Yea, it's that sort of place.

Rumor has it that a "church" will be taking over the La Mesa location. The Gaslamp branch will continue to operate under regular hours...for now. For more information, visit joltnjoes.com.
