Over a year and a half in development, the team behind San Diego's popular OB Noodle House is almost ready to open The Holding Company, a 7,000+ square-foot, three story bar, restaurant and live music venue in Ocean Beach with a rooftop patio overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Steven Yeng and his Chinese-born family were forced to become refugees for 5 years in Thailand during the brutal Khmer Rouge Communist regime and its "Killing Fields" in their home country of Cambodia. After an Ocean Beach family anonymously sponsored the family's migration to San Diego in 1991, Steven's parents began working at O.B. Donuts, which they were eventually able to purchase and rescue from bankruptcy. In 2008, Steven and his brother Kyle opened the original O.B. Noodle House.
Although "The Noodle House" was mostly an immediate success, the constant lines started forming after the restaurant was featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network in August 2013. In May 2014, Yeng opened the second OB Noodle House & Bar 1502 off Bacon Street in central Ocean Beach. In mid-2016, Yeng continued his Ocean Beach takeover when he leased the space that previously housed Gallagher's and opened The Holding Company. Last year, Steven launched his own line of peanut butter whiskey based off a popular shot served at OB Noodle House. Called Skrewball, the product has already won accolades and even received a shout out at last weekend's private Foo Fighters concert at Petco Park by frontman Dave Grohl.
