Carté Hotel Grand Opens In Downtown San Diego With Three New Food & Beverage Venues

September 13, 2019

From Hilton's upscale Curio Collection of properties comes Carté Hotel, downtown San Diego's newest hotel which houses three distinctive new dining & drinking establishments including a rooftop bar, an Italian wine lounge and an all-day "sea-to-table" restaurant.

Carté Hotel is a brand new, 246-room property designed by The Manchette Studio. The property celebrates the community’s nautical heritage and architecture through design elements like abstract metal screens resembling fishing nets in the lobby and around the first level, paying homage to Little Italy’s heritage as a fishing village. The tribute to the neighborhood’s history is continued throughout the hotel, which relies on blue tones and natural wood elements to serve as a nod to San Diego’s various historic piers. Reflective of San Diego’s famed and beloved sunsets, copper is a featured accent throughout the property, most notably on the exterior of the hotel, where it aesthetically contrasts with the ocean-inspired blue and green glass panels. Carté also offers more than 8,500 square feet of event space, with seven on-site private event options. The hotel is also home to Fit Athletic Club, providing access for guests to enjoy the 28,000-square-foot upscale, full-service fitness club.

"Little Italy’s rich history is both energetic and captivating and our property is designed to be a landing pad that offers our guests an authentic experience of this neighborhood and its character," said General Manager Henri Birmele. "Carté Hotel will play an integral part in bringing together both guests and locals alike to celebrate Little Italy’s heritage this fall."

Carté houses three unique dining and drinking venues, including the 16th story rooftop Above Ash Social lounge and bar, featuring fire pits and stunning views of San Diego Bay, complimented by a creative cocktail menu and a list of shareable small plates. The property's signature restaurant is Watercolors, which will offer a seafood-forward menu from Executive Chef Cesar Oceguera, who previously worked in the kitchens at Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill and Searsucker in Las Vegas. The "sea-to-table" restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Fonte di Vino is a full-service wine bar scheduled to open next month with a wide selection of wines hailing from Italy, as well as including local and regional wines from Southern California and Northern Mexico. Guests of Fonte di Vino will be able to order dishes from the Watercolors menu, as well as a menu of cheese and charcuterie boards. There is also a ground floor lobby bar with local beers on tap and craft cocktails featuring spirits from local distilleries.

Carté Hotel is located at 401 West Ash Street on the southern outskirts of San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, visit cartehotel.com.
