The first San Diego location of Patxi's Pizza grand opens in Hillcrest today, offering a menu of Neapolitan and Chicago-style deep dish pizzas.
Los Angeles-based Elite Restaurant Group - which owns various chains including Gigi’s Cupcake, Slater's 50/50, Daphne’s California Greek, and Noon Mediterranean - recently acquired all the Project Pie locations and announced that they would be rebranding the Carlsbad-based pizza concept to become Patxi's Pizza, which Elite purchased last year. Patxi’s was founded in 2004 in Palo Alto, CA, by William Freeman and Francisco “Patxi” Azpiroz and the brand now has restaurants in Northern and Central California, Seattle, Colorado, and a new store scheduled to open in November in Los Angeles. Since the acquisition, Patxi’s Pizza has revamped and relaunched its menu, which was expanded to include more deep dish and thin crust pizza offerings, a build-your-own pizza option, complete lunch menu, more happy hour specials, dessert pizzas, and a selection of local beer & wine.
The first San Diego outpost of Patxi's opens today in Hillcrest, followed soon by branches set to unveil by year's end in Chula Vista (555 Broadway, Suite 140), and Eastlake (2260 Otay Lakes Road). In addition to offering 2-for-1 specials on opening day, Patxi’s Pizza will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, October 26 benefiting The San Diego LGBT Community Center - an LGBT activist group based in Hillcrest. Beginning at 11am, Patxi’s will offer select deep dish slices for only $5, with 20% of the proceeds donated back to The Center to help it continue to provide programs and services to the full diversity of San Diego’s LGBT community.
