San Diego's Sicilian Thing Pizza To Change Hands In North Park

October 29, 2019

North Park's 12-year-old Sicilian Thing Pizza has been sold to an experienced local chef who plans on continuing to operate the pizzeria as-is but with the addition of more Italian-style menu items.

Opened in North Park in 2007 by Paul Wanushek and Michael DeRose, Sicilian Thing Pizza gained a positive reputation around San Diego for its menu of square pan and East Coast-style pizzas, as well as hot sandwiches, Stromboli, salads, desserts, and local craft beer. The restaurant will change hands at some point around Thanksgiving and transferred to its new owner Atal Atmar, who currently works at Il Dandy in Bankers Hill and previously cooked in the kitchen at Catania in La Jolla.

Upon taking over the space in late November, Atmar plans a seamless transition and hopes not to close the restaurant at all. He will keep the same name and menu, with the only changes being the additions of more health-focused items including an array of salads, entrees, and even nightly fresh pasta specials.

Sicilian Thing Pizza is located at 4046 30th Street in San Diego's North Park community. For more information, visit sicilianthingpizza.com.
