Coronado's Blue Bridge Hospitality To Bring Beachy Sports Bar To Former Maretalia Space

November 22, 2019

Last month we announced that Coronado's Blue Bridge Hospitality was shuttering its Maretalia Ristorante in Coronado, but the company is actually in the process of rebranding the 6,500 square-foot space to become a modern surf-themed sports bar with fun features like arcade games, billiards, and frequent themed events. Boardwalk Beach Club aims to open by year's end.

Closed since early October, Blue Bridge Hospitality is taking the former Maretalia building and redesigning it to add more "view" seating along all of the windows, both those looking out over the Pacific Ocean and those peering out to Orange Avenue. Twenty additional high definition televisions are also being added for the ability to show multiple sporting events and surf videos. There is the addition of a new stage for live music or the ability to MC events such as trivia nights. Last but not least, various parts of the former dining room has been converted to add entertaining options such as skeeball, shuffleboard, a handful of arcade games, and billiard tables.

"We really are excited to fill a niche that is not currently occupied here in Coronado - an all day place where locals and visitors can come and hang-out, have some fun, watch their favorite team, enjoy some tasty grub, have a friendly shuffleboard competition, play some video games, buy some Def Leppard t-shirts..... and just enjoy the beach vibes," explained Blue Bridge Hospitality's Vice President of Operations Matt Gordon. "We plan on creating a fun social environment with theme nights, monthly parties highlighting a theme (Oysterfest, Clam-Jam, Whole-Hog Hoe-Down), and plenty of room for private events!"

Chef Matt Gordon and other Blue Bridge chefs have created a "socal-meets-the-islands" themed all-day menu for Boardwalk Beach Club. Expect dishes like Hawaiian Sticky Pork Lettuce Wraps, Kalua Pork Tacos, a bunch of burgers, salads, and "Plate Lunch" style entrees. On the weekends Boardwalk Beach Club will serve "pancake breakfast" with some over the top griddle creations. On the beverage side there is the addition of 16 taps and a menu of both hard and not-so-hard island cocktails, along with a spin on some classics.

Owned by Coronado native David Spatafore, Blue Bridge Hospitality got its start in 1998 with MooTime Creamery and has experienced substantial growth over the past nearly two decades with many distinct family-friendly concepts now in its portfolio, including Liberty Public Market, Leroys Kitchen & Lounge, Stake Chophouse, Lil' Piggy's Bar-B-Q, Village Pizzeria, Crafted, and recently opened Little Frenchie.

Boardwalk Beach Club is anticipated to unveil at 1300 Orange Avenue in Coronado before year's end. For more information on Blue Bridge Hospitality and its concepts, visit bluebridgehospitality.com.
