Support Baja Firefighters By Attending Unidos Por Valle Tasting Event & Fundraiser At Kettner Exchange On December 3

November 23, 2019

On Tuesday, December 3, from 7-10:30pm, Valle de Guadalupe’s Winemakers Association Provino and Baja Wine + Food will host a delicious fundraiser at Kettner Exchange in Little Italy featuring 15 of the Valle’s best wineries, 11 celebrated chefs from both sides of the border, 4 award winning breweries, 2 craft spirit distillers, San Diego’s premier cheesemonger, as well as a supporting cast of restaurants, wineries, farmers, fishermen and artists - all to raise money to support Baja Firefighters. Don't miss Unidos por Valle!

Over the past several years, Baja's Valle de Guadalupe has become a haven for aficionados of wine and food from all over the globe. Located less than 2 hours from downtown San Diego, "the Valle" has earned its place amongst the top wine regions of the world, standing out for its pastoral identity and proudly bucolic landscape of farms and vineyards. But that pastoral elegance comes with challenges, and at no time in recent history have those challenges been more prevalent than during the recent fire storms that encroached upon the peaceful rural communities that constitute the Valle de Guadalupe.

As the fires impinged upon the region and surrounding towns, incredibly overtaxed volunteer firefighters - clad in sneakers and hand-me-down fire coats -  fought back flames fueled by 60 mph Santa Ana winds with little more than shovels and pickaxes. The resulting losses of these devastating fires brought to forefront an issue that has long been a troubling thorn in an otherwise idyllic paradise - operating on an entirely volunteer fire service with outdated training and obsolete equipment, the wine region is in dire need of modernization of its fire department.

To help raise much needed funds, one of the Valle De Guadalupe most passionate promoters, Fernando Gaxiola of Baja Wine + Food is bringing together some of his industry friends for a one night only tasting event and fundraiser at Kettner Exchange in San Diego's Little Italy. Participating Chefs serving dishes at Unidos Por Valle include Drew Deckman, Benito Molina & Solange Muris, Sheyla Alvarado, Adria Montaño, Ruffo Ibarra, Brian Redzikowski, Brad Wise, Claudette Zepeda, John Bautista, and Martin San Roman. There will also be craft beer stations by Border Psycho, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, and Colibre, as well as mezcal and tequila tastings and a cheese station from local fromager Jack Ford. Along with 15 Valle wineries pairing a curated selection of their best wines, there will also be live music, auctions and much more.

All-inclusive tickets to Unidos Por Valle are available online for $50 for all food samples and 3 wine tastings included, $100 for all food samples and unlimited wine tastings, $150 VIPs, which adds early entry and a VIP section with premium wine, mezcal and tequila. Promo code UNIDOS50 saves 50% on tickets. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the Firefighters Crossing Borders, a 501(c)(3) company benefitting Bomberos Voluntarios El Porvenir - the Valle de Guadalupe’s volunteer fire department. If you are unable to attend the event, but are interested in donating to the Bomberos Voluntarios El Porvenir, a GoFundMe has also been established.
