Opened by Paul & Jinda Srimuang in September 2011, Bahn Thai has unveiled a second San Diego location in the prime Hillcrest space last occupied by Babycakes Bakery, which relocated again last summer. The new restaurant has been designed by Lahaina Architects to honor the history of the building, which was originally a small family home. There are two patio areas and unique elements like a spiral staircase in the interior courtyard and a wood trellis along the front of the building. Allowing husband-and-wife chefs Sam & Kate to greatly expand their output, a fully renovated kitchen has been installed to handle in-house demand as well as the eatery's substantial daily take-out orders.
