Las Morelianas To Bring Michoacan-Style Carnitas To San Diego's La Jolla

February 28, 2020

The fifth location from Michoacan carnitas specialists Las Morelianas will soon open in the space that last housed Hana Cafe in San Diego's La Jolla.

Since 1997, Las Morelianas has been a San Diego destination for carnitas surtida - a traditional pork preparation stemming from Michoacán, Mexico where every edible part of the pig is slowly cooked in lard (essentially a Mexican-style pork confit). Las Morelianas currently has locations at 2822 Imperial Avenue in San Diego's Grant Hill, 3645 University Avenue in East San Diego, inside Grand Central Market in Los Angeles, and another in Hemet, California - all owned by different members of the same family.

The La Jolla location of Las Morelianas will open this spring in the space that last housed Hana Cafe on the corner of La Jolla Boulevard and Pearl Street. In addition to carnitas prepared in many styles, the eatery will offer an eclectic array of Mexican street foods including tacos, tortas, tostadas, burritos, quesadillas, sopes, enchiladas, fajitas, and Mariscos-style seafood.

Las Morelianas will sit at 456 Pearl St in La Jolla. For more information, visit carnitasymariscoslasmorelianas.com and check out the sample menu below.
