Tabu Shabu Japanese Hot Pot Opens In North Park

February 9, 2020

Orange County-based Tabu Shabu Japanese Hot Pot unveils this week in San Diego's North Park, and eager diners will get discounted meals to celebrate the highly anticipated opening.

Tabu Shabu is an authentic Japanese shabu-shabu restaurant founded in 2012 by restaurateur Jeff Chon that currently has two locations in Orange County with another San Diego outpost set to open soon within The Square at Bressi Ranch in Carlsbad. Last year, the company took over the 2,250 square-foot North Park space that housed Paesano Fine Italian Food for more than 50 years.

Translating to "swish-swish" in Japanese, shabu-shabu is a preparation of food where diners cook a variety of meats, seafood and vegetables in steaming hot broth then eat it with an array of sauces. Tabu Shabu offers four broth bases, carefully selected meats and seafood from all over the globe, locally sourced produce, and homemade sauces made with freshly ground sesame seeds. The restaurant also serves a concise list of Japanese starters, sides and desserts, as well as a menu of beer, wine, and sake.

Tabu Shabu soft opens tonight for dinner and those who have secured a reservation will receive 50% off their tab. The eatery will open for dinner service starting tomorrow and patrons will receive a 20% discount through the week.

Tabu Shabu is located at 3647 30th Street in San Diego's North Park and will open at 5pm daily. For more information, visit tabushabu.com and check out the menu below.
