The Gluten Free Baking Company currently operates a dedicated gluten free production kitchen in Coronado, and at the request of their customers is finally opening a retail location this weekend in the heart of San Diego's North Park.
Following her son's gluten intolerance diagnosis, Roanna Canete had to learn to cook for her child which eventually led to a new vocation. She soon left her career as a leadership consultant to launch a wholesale production bakery in Coronado centered around gluten-free cakes, pastries and donuts. With the help of in-house cake designer Lisa Altfest, The Gluten Free Baking Company gained in popularity and was even featured on Netflix’s Sugar Rush series this past fall.
"After years of serving the San Diego restaurant scene with wholesale gluten free baked goods, it is our pleasure to open a retail bakery," commented The Gluten Free Baking Company founder Roanna Canete. "We will be offering new products and a variety of flavors, seasonal items, and of course our signature items that won accolades from the judges on Netflix’s Sugar Rush. We take pride in making San Diego safe for diners with food restrictions and this is one more step in that direction."
The Gluten Free Baking Company will open this Saturday, February 8, at 9:30am in the space previously occupied by The Cake Pop Shop in North Park. The new bakery will offer same-day orders of custom cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes, lemon bars, brownies, breads, pastries, bagels, and donuts, as well as dry mixes for crepes, pancakes, waffles, cakes, cupcakes, and more. The North Park location will also offer a menu of pour-over coffees, espresso, and dairy-free and vegan items. The quaint 400 square-foot space will also have a small outdoor patio with tables where patrons can enjoy treats onsite. Eventually, the company hopes to offer cooking classes for adults and children.
