For First Time In 132 Year History, Hotel Del Coronado Suspends Operations

March 25, 2020

San Diego's historic Hotel del Coronado is temporarily suspending hotel operations for the first time in its 132 year history, citing the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus as the reason.

"This difficult decision is reflective of the current business environment and not a result of illness or confirmed cases at the hotel," said Hotel Del General Manager Harold Rapoza Jr. in a letter published by the Coronado Times. "Our hotel security team will be on-site 24/7 to ensure this National Historic Landmark remains protected for our future guests."

Hotel Del Coronado is in the process of a $400 million renovation with planned upgrades to almost every aspect of the historic property, including upgrades to all dining & drinking venues, cabanas, rooms, retail areas, the spa & wellness center, and the addition of a new pool and 15,000 square foot event center. Construction will continue so long as it remains permitted under local, state and federal mandates.
