Did Actor John Krasinski Rip Off A San Diego Radio Personality Then Sell The Concept To CBS??

May 24, 2020

Longtime San Diego radio personality, Chris Cantore, posted his first positive news format video on March 26. He was wearing a suit and recorded himself reporting positive news from around the country. Three days later, The Office star John Krasinski did the same thing. With recent headlines that the "Quiet Place" frontman had agreed to sell his positive story broadcast "Some Good News" to CBS, we ask the question - did John Krasinski rip off a San Diego radio star or is this just coincidence?

"Hello friends, time for a fun quarantine poll," posted currently unemployed San Diego radio personality Chris Cantore on his Facebook page. "First, some backstory - on march 26th, i posted my first #goodnews" video on all social platforms. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Nr96vjRqS/ - shot in my kid's room, I wore a suit and shared uplifting stories including a man thanking hospital workers with a homemade sign and a child who returned from chemo to a neighborhood parade. Three days later, on March 29th, John Krasinski posted his first #somegoodnews video on all social platforms. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-VrI-FhidU/. Shot with kids art behind him, John wore a suit and shared uplifting stories including a man thanking hospital workers with a homemade sign and a child who returned from chemo to a neighborhood parade. Until this article, I was stoked to have a fellow good news advocate pushing out free content to millions during a crisis. So much so, I stopped doing my videos. BUT, after learning he sold the #goodnews concept to CBS after a "massive bidding war," I gotta ask: (a) coincidence, there's no such thing as an original idea, (b) there's no such thing as a coincidence, something seems fishy. Interested to see your comments - either way, kinda trippy!"

Last week, Krasinski aired his last installment after a 14 episode run. Over the less than 2 months, “Some Good News” earned nearly 1 million followers on Instagram, 2.57 million subscribers on YouTube (with each broadcast bringing in between 3 million and 17 million viewers), and news broke that the show had been officially licensed by ViacomCBS for an undisclosed amount of money after an alleged bidding war. We reached out to Krasinki through his social media channels for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
