Five Guys Permanently Shutters Location In San Diego's Pacific Beach

May 15, 2020

Five Guys Burgers & Fries has permanently shuttered its Pacific Beach location after nearly a decade in business.

Five Guys restaurant was founded in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia, by Janie and Jerry Murrell. Jerry and his sons - Jim, Matt, Chad, and Ben - were the original "Five Guys." In early 2003, the chain began franchising, and in a year and a half, permits had been sold for over 300 franchised locations. The chain of restaurants now has more than 1,500 locations around the globe. There are currently 7 locations around San Diego County. The Pacific Beach outpost opened in fall 2010.

We recently received word that the freestanding building located at 1020 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach was sold by former owner Tanye Blane to an undisclosed buyer for $2 Million. The 4,500 square-foot retail space is currently listed for lease by Retail Insite. We reached out to Five Guys representatives to see if other area locations would be closing but we did not receive a response by the time of publishing.
