San Diego County Fair May Be Cancelled For This Year But You Can Still Get Your Fair Food Fix

June 7, 2020

The San Diego County Fair may be cancelled for this year, but hungry San Diegans can still get their fair food fix, as Chicken Charlie's has launched his stand in East County and the fair is hosting select food vendors every weekend throughout June.

We know it’s "no fair" there won’t be a San Diego County Fair this year, but locals can still satisfy their fair food fix. Vendors participating at the Del Mar Racetrack and Fairground for takeout from noon to 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays throughout June include Roxy’s (we give their falafel burger five stars!), Copper Kettle (hooray for kettle corn!), California Corn Dog Company (dip to your heart’s delight!) and Snax Shack Funnel Cake (all that powdered-sugary-doughy-goodness!). Patrons can enter at the Solana Gate and the full menu is available below.

Fair favorite Chicken Charlie's FryBBQ has also opened his stand in the Walmart parking lot within Grossmont Center in San Diego's East County city of La Mesa. His newest offerings include fried salt water taffy to go with classics like the Krispy Kreme donut cheeseburger, Naked Shrimp filled pineapple, cotton candy ice cream sandwich and many fried delicacies. Chicken Charlies is open daily from 11am-7pm at 5500 Grossmont Center Drive. Customers must order and pay online. There is also a Chicken Charlie’s Table full service restaurant in Rancho Bernardo.

The San Diego County Fair will also be hosting a Virtual Jr. Livestock Show and Sale beginning at 9 a.m. June 26-27. See 4H and FFA kids and their prized goats, steers, lambs and hogs are the stars of this eBay-style auction  We know these kids work hard all year long to raise their animals, so we found a creative way for them to show and auction this year.
