Tacos El Trompo To Bring Tijuana-Style Mexican Flare To San Diego's Mission Beach

July 19, 2020

Tacos El Trompo, an authentic Tijuana-style taco shop that currently has locations in San Diego's National City & Barrio Logan, will soon open its third area outpost in Mission Beach.

Tacos El Trompo will soon open within the space that long housed Rubicon Deli in San Diego's Missioin Beach. As the name suggests, the eatery will center its menu around marinated roast pork 'al pastor' cooked on a vertical rotisserie, known as a "trompo", which literally is a toy spinning top that resembles the meat tornado. This cooking method where thin cuts of marinated pork are stacked high on a spit and typically topped with a pineapple was adopted by Mexico from Mediterranean immigrants in the early 20th century. In addition to hand sliced pork street tacos, Tacos El Trompo offers a full taco shop menu featuring breakfast, many taco options prepared on housemade corn tortillas, burritos, smothered fried, birria, mulitas, quesadillas, TJ hot dogs, entree plates, torta sandwiches, and soups.

Tacos El Trompo aims to open at 3819 Mission Boulevard in Mission Beach by this fall. For more information, follow the restaurant's Facebook Page
