The family behind San Diego's Taste of Himalayas East Indian restaurant - which has locations in Carlsbad, La Jolla, Point Loma, Hillcrest and El Cajon - is seeking help in locating the persons that killed their grandmother in a fatal hit-and-run accident this past weekend.

"Our grandmother was killed by a black and grey Dodge truck Sunday, July 19, 2020, at approximately 8:04pm during her nightly walk," posted Taste of Himalayas manager Sayal Shahi to the restaurant's Facebook page. "Please unite with our family to find justice of this hit and run accident. Our family is asking the community to check any known surveillance footage near Mesa College, Ashford Street, Lindbergh Neighborhood Park and Eckstrom Avenue. It appears that the truck may have been bought that day so please spread the word to anybody you know employed at any vehicle dealership near the Clairemont area. The couple may have been visiting from out of town, so our family is asking if you know somebody who works at a hotel, camp ground or KOA to snap a picture of this sign and forward it to them."

The hit-and-run crash was reported shortly after 8pm on Sunday, July 19, around 4117 Ashford Street neat Lindbergh Neighborhood Park in Clairemont, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said. Goma Pokharel was walking northbound on Ashford Street when she started crossing the street near a pickup that was parked on the east side of the street, Buttle said. As she was walking around the pickup, a vehicle heading northbound on Ashford Street veered to the right and struck the truck and the pedestrian. A woman driving the suspect vehicle got out,  along with her male passenger, and ran back to the pedestrian, then they returned to their vehicle and switched seats before the man drove off, the officer said. Pokharel was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect vehicle is described as a dark Dodge Ram truck with dually tires and overhead cab lights. No detailed descriptions of the suspect or the male passenger are immediately available.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to send an email with the subject "Case # 20203972 Goma Pokharel" to [email protected] and [email protected].
