The Smoking Goat & Fernside Teams Join Forces For New Concept At Former Toronado Space

July 14, 2020

The teams behind San Diego's The Smoking Goat in North Park and Fernside in South Park are joining forces to launch a new concept within the space that long housed Toronado.

Toronado was a beloved San Diego craft beer destination before it closed earlier this year after 12 years in business, much to the dismay of many local regulars. The prime North Park space was quickly scooped by Adam Cook & Fred Piehl after a bit of a bidding war. Cook is the proprietor of Fernside in South Park and Bluefoot Bar & Lounge in North Park, which neighbors Chef Fred Piehl's The Smoking Goat and One Door North restaurants. The duo decided to join forces to launch a neighborhood gastropub concept at the former Toronado.

The yet-to-be-named eatery is currently in the process of installing within the now-gutted Toronado space. Expect an approachable menu of elevated pub fare similar to that seen at Cook's Fernside, with chef-inspired twists from Piehl. The eatery will also boast a curated list of craft beer, as well as a selection of wines available by the glass or bottle. A full liquor license is in the works and if obtained will result in the addition of a cocktail menu. The eatery is not expected to open at 4026 30th Street in San Diego's North Park until early 2021.
