Coal Bros Taqueria Brings Baja Street Food To Downtown San Diego

Coal Bros Taqueria has opened in downtown San Diego, offering a concise Baja street food menu made authentic by real fire and smoke.

Coal Bros Taqueria was founded as a roving taco shop in April 2018 by brothers-in-law Abner Figueroa and Julio Toscano, who is an is an active member of the SMP Mexican Society of Grill Experts. Figueroa, who has more than 12 years of experience in business development, discovered Toscano's talent for creating the best tasting tacos he ever tasted and from that point there was no turning back. Earlier this month, the duo opened their first brick-and-mortar restaurant in the 1,025 square-foot space last occupied by Downtown Fish Joint in downtown San Diego. 

"Coal Bros Taqueria is a 619 thing!", wrote Coal Bros Operations Manager Abner Figueroa. "Born in San Diego California our brand offers an experience of flavors and folklore that you find in street food. Coal Bros Taqueria is distinguished for its fresh local ingredients, our simple menu inspired by the mixing of Baja street food with the smoke of the grill. Coal Bros Taqueria mission is to unite friends and family from every culture by bringing them together by the power of great food."

The menu at Coal Bros Taqueria is simple and continually under development. Taco options include rib eye, surf & turf, shrimp, chicken and smoked tuna. There is also appetizers like bacon-wrapped Mexican corn, blue tuna tostada and s'mores for dessert, as well as soft drinks like jamaica guava agua fresca. There is also a "secret menu" with new creations frequently added. 

Coal Bros Taqueria is now open Tuesday through Thursday from 11am to 7pm and Friday & Saturday from 11am to 8pm at 407 C Street in downtown San Diego. For more information, follow Coal Bros on Instagram and check out the menu below.
