The third San Diego location of build-your-own poke bowl concept Poke Chop will unveil this week in Encinitas.
The first location of Poke Chop opened on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach in 2017, with a second outpost unveiling the following year in Hillcrest. The eatery offers a simple menu of customizable poke bowls and poke burritos. For the unindoctrinated, poke (pronounced 'po-KAY') means to cut or slice and it is a Hawaiian culinary delicacy traditionally made with raw ahi bluefin tuna, cut into cubes and lightly seasoned with any number of preferential ingredients, including seaweed, soy sauce and onion, among others. In addition to fresh tuna, the Poke Chop also offers salmon, seared tuna, scallops, seared albacore, shrimp, octopus, spicy tuna, yellowtail and tofu as proteins, as well as a long list of add ons and sauces.
