Now open on the ground floor space long occupied by South Beach Bar & Grille in San Diego's Ocean Beach neighborhood is Black Sands Hula Lounge, an island-inspired restaurant & tiki bar.
Last month, John Thompson rebranded the ground floor of his longtime San Diego seafood taco destination South Beach Bar & Grill into a new sister concept Black Sands Hula Lounge. Operated by John's daughter Nicole Ueno, Black Sands is now decorated with Polynesian decor and offers a menu of Hawaiian and Asian-influenced dishes. Highlights include Kona karaage fried chicken, mango poke bowl, ramen, udon noodles, and spicy tuna fresh roll. From the bar, there is a long list of classic tiki drinks like the Mai Tai, Zombie, Singapore Sling, and more.
