San Marcos Brewery & Grill Announces Permanent Closure After 27 Years In Business

November 20, 2020

Citing newly implemented purple tier restrictions as the reason, San Marcos Brewery & Grill has announced it has permanently closed after 27 years in business.

San Marcos Brewery & Grill was a full service "American Grill" restaurant and brewery founded in 1993 by brewmaster David Nutley. Billed as the first micro-brewery in San Diego's North County, the company produced a variety of craft beers, many of which were dispensed through a traditional hand pump to get Old World flavor.

"Well, the time has come," posted San Marcos Brewery to the company's Facebook page. "With the restrictions of COVID 19, and the purple tier, the Brewery has suspended its operations.  We’ve had a good 27 year run and now it’s time to call it... done. Thank you all for the support through the years.  We wish you well. Cheers to a better year! 2021".

Over 100 San Diego County bars & restaurants have shuttered so far in 2020. Just in the past 2 weeks, we have reported the closures of Hillcrest's Beau Kitchen + Caché and for-charity Tacos Libertad, Amarin Thai in Hillcrest, Small Bar in University Heights, Phil's BBQ in San Marcos, and Royale in Point Loma.

San Marcos Brewery & Grill is located at 1020 W San Marcos Boulevard in San Diego's North County. For more information, visit sanmarcosbrewery.com.
