San Diego's Border X Brewing Adds Chef-Driven, Wood-Fire Mexican Restaurant En Familia Cocina De Campo

March 17, 2021

San Diego's Border X Brewing in Barrio Logan now houses En Familia Cocina De Campo - a chef-driven, Baja-inspired Mexican restaurant centered around the timeless art of wood fire cooking.

Partners David Favela, his brother Marcelino and his sons, Martin and Ivan opened the original Border X Brewing in San Diego's historic Barrio Logan community in 2014. The craft brewery combines traditional brewing methods with Mexican ingredients. Just this week, the brewery replaced onsite eatery Tury's Tacos with En Familia Cocina De Campo, although Chef Tury remains an integral part of the kitchen.

Sited at Border X Brewing's expansive outdoor back patio, En Familia Cocina De Campo offers a Valle de Guadalupe-style menu of modern Mexican fare cooked over open flame on a custom Santa Maria grill. The eatery has two powerhouse chefs manning the kitchen. Executive Chef David Fuerte has worked in the culinary industry for 15 years, opening boutique restaurants for companies like the Ritz Carlton, Hilton, and Marriott. He most recently opened Masataco in Whittier, CA, an organic, plant-based Mexican restaurant and taqueria. Chef Jaime Chavez, who previously led the kitchen at now-closed Sirena Cocina Latina in San Diego's Little Italy, is also helping man the grill after a couple years hiatus from America's Finest City.

En Familia Cocina De Campo is currently offering dinner reservations for group of 2-8 on Tuesday through Sunday, with seatings at 6pm & 8pm. Highlights from the menu include yellowtail crudo with Taijin watermelon aguachile sauce, the Barrio steak salad with chipotle vinaigrette, the 28 ounce wood-grilled Tomahawk steak, and blue corn cobbler for dessert. In addition to Border X craft beer, the restaurant also serves a selection of Valle de Guadalupe wines. The eatery will serve a more casual menu during off hours when Border X Brewing is open.

Border X Brewing & En Familia Cocina De Campo are located at 2181 Logan Avenue in San Diego's Barrio Logan. For more information, visit borderxbrewing.com and check out the current menus below.
