San Diego's The Comedy Palace and sister restaurant Greek Palace shuttered late last year after a three decade tenure, but laughs will return to the Kearny Mesa space when Mic Drop Comedy opens later this year.
Hillary Hutson and Casey Currier are bringing decades of comedy experience to San Diego with the opening of Mic Drop Comedy. Hutson has been surrounded by comedy since 2014, with a resume including serving as the executive director for events like the Big Pine Comedy Festival and San Diego Comedy Festival. She is also an investor and creative director for Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club and Lounge in Sacramento, CA and has worked as the booker for House of Comedy in Phoenix, AZ. Currier has been in the comedy business since 2005, first starting as a door guy then rising to the ranks of a general manager for clubs such as Tempe Improv (Tempe, AZ), Stand Up Live (Phoenix, AZ), Palm Beach Improv (West Palm Beach, FL), and CB Live (Phoenix).
Mic Drop Comedy will offer a modern comedy club experience with a full bar featuring elevated cocktails, a curated wine list and San Diego craft beer. The space will feature an extended outdoor patio for guests to grab pre or post show drink, as well as a food menu with shareable appetizers, tacos, burritos, sandwiches, and side dishes. Day to day operations will be overseen by General Manager Shannon Roberts, who has worked in the comedy industry for the past 6 years, beginning her career at the Dead Crow Comedy Room in Wilmington, NC and previously acting as GM and booker for House of Comedy in Phoenix, AZ.
Mic Drop Comedy aims to open by year's end at 8878 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, Suite A, in San Diego's Kearny Mesa neighborhood.
