April 18, 2021

San Diego chef Drew Bent, who leads the kitchen at East Village taco destination Lola 55, will compete on this week's episode of Food Network's Beat Bobby Flay.

Chef Andrew 'Drew' Bent is a graduate of the Art Institute of California and has worked locally in the kitchens at Searsucker, Carnitas' Snack Shack, Puesto, Tender Greens, Tiger!Tiger!, and in 2017 even apprenticed in the kitchen for frequent "Best Restaurant In The World" winner Noma’s month-long Tulum, Mexico pop-up. Bent also worked at Enrique Olvero's Criollo restaurant in Oaxaca for a short period. Most recently, Chef Drew has been running the kitchen as executive chef and partner at Lola 55 in San Diego's East Village, which has won the hearts of local food lovers and critics alike, even earning the highly coveted Bib Gourmand distinction from California’s Michelin Guide.

Chef Drew will compete on Season 27, Episode 11 of Food Network's Beat Bobby Flay, airing on Thursday, April 22, at 8pm. Drew will first have to face off against Chef Alejandro Barrientos of Curb Side Bistro in West Texas. If he prevails, Chef Bent will then face iconic celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

"Getting to compete on this show has been a bucket list experience," commented Chef Drew Bent. "The chance to rep our fine city of San Diego and LOLA 55 is an honor. I hope you all enjoy watching this episode as much as I enjoyed the experience of getting to compete."
