Decades-Old StarBread Filipino Bakery To Bring Famed Señorita Roles To San Diego

May 13, 2021

A decades-old destination for Filipino baked goods in Northern California, StarBread Bakery will soon open its first San Diego location.

Founded in Vallejo, CA, in 1986 under a different name, StarBread is a family-run Filipino bakery with 7 locations around Northern California, many of which operate 24 hours a day. The company is widely known for its Señorita bread, also called "Spanish Bread", small rolls made with bread dough that is slathered with butter, sugar and breadcrumbs. StarBread's rotating menu also includes cakes, pastries, donuts, and bitso-bitso, a pastry similar to Portuguese malasada pumped with a variety of fillings like cream cheese, chocolate cream, apple, and strawberry jelly. The eatery also frequently has savory items like lumpia, empanadas, and siopao - a steamed bun filled with meat.

StarBread's San Diego branch and most southerly location will soon install within Chula Vista Submarket in the space 1,800 square-foot space previously occupied by Firehouse Subs. There is no time table on when the San Diego outpost will open or if it will be open 24 hours a day.

StarBread will open at 510 Broadway, Suite 8, in San Diego's South County city of Chula Vista. For more information, visit starbreadca.com.
