Wormwood Absinthe Bar & French Bistro To Open At Former Jaynes Gastropub Space In San Diego's North Park

June 1, 2021

Replacing Jayne's Gastropub in San Diego's North Park is Wormwood, an absinthe bar and French bistro from the owner of Tahona in Old Town.

Wormwood is spearheaded by Amar Harrag, a native of France and graduate of the University of San Diego who co-owns numerous locations of Matisse Bistro in San Diego and Irvine, Tahona Bar and neighboring Oculto 477 speakeasy in Old Town, Hidden Craft self-serve beer bar and restaurant in downtown San Diego, and runs real estate brokerage Allied Green Realty. In addition to founding the San Diego chapter of Corazon de Vida, Harrag sits on the board of directors for Create Purpose, and both non-profits aid orphaned and abandoned children in Mexico.

Wormwood is currently installing in the University Heights/North Park space that previously housed Jayne's Gastropub, which closed last year after 13 years in business. Named after the herb used as an essential ingredient in the spirit absinthe, Wormwood will be a Bohemian-style French bistro restaurant and absinthe parlor. Expect a menu of classic French dishes, complimented by a curated Old World wine list and an impressive selection of Absinthe bottles served poured over a sugar cube from traditional absinthe fountains. The bar & restaurant will also be home to the First Tuesday Society, a monthly symposium similar to The Last Tuesday Society and Absinthe Parlor in London.

Wormwood is expected to open as early as this fall at 4677 30th Street on the border of San Diego's University Heights & North Park neighborhoods. For more information, follow the concept on Facebook & Instagram
