Kindred Owner To Launch New Plant-Based Bar & Restaurant In San Diego's University Heights Neighborhood

June 10, 2021

We recently announced that the owner of San Diego vegan restaurant & cocktail destination Kindred was moving into the space that previously housed Del Sur Mexican Cantina in South Park for a new "tropical space adventure bar", but the team is also working on another plant-based bar & restaurant to open in the center of University Heights.

Kory Stetina partnered with Consortium Holding's founder Arsalun Tafazoli in 2015 to open Kindred, a death-metal themed vegan restaurant and cocktail bar destination in San Diego's South Park neighborhood. The duo recently finalized a deal with owners of Del Sur Mexican Cantina, which is expected close this month, and will take over the nearby space for an out of the ordinary new concept. Inspired as an offshoot of Kindred's weekly "Permanent Vacation" pop-up, the new concept installing at the former Del Sur, dubbed Mothership, will be a retro tiki meets outer space bar and eatery with a list of ever-changing wild cocktails and unique plant-based food offerings.

Stetina recently took over the 4,500 square-foot building that last housed a community office space at 4608-10 Park Boulevard directly under the University Heights sign for a new bar and restaurant concept, possibly with a speakeasy component. While details are still very much in development, expect the unit to receive a modern redesign and open with an ambitious craft cocktail list and a completely vegan menu from Kindred's longtime chef Dylan Craver.

The yet-to-be named concept from the Kindred team aims to open by late 2021/early 2022.
