San Diego's award-winning Mostra Coffee will soon open a location in Bankers Hill on the base floor of the brand new TRU apartment & condo complex.
Founded in 2013 by longtime friends Beverly & Sam Magtanong, Jelynn Malone, and Mike Arquines, Mostra Coffee was launched with the goal of spotlighting the Filipino coffee industry. Last year, the coffee company was named as Roast Magazine's Micro Roaster of the Year. Named after the Italian word for "show", the company currently has locations in Carmel Mountain Ranch and 4S Ranch, with more on the way, including its most central San Diego cafe in the works in Bankers Hill. Mostra also works closely with will the craft beer industry to assist with beer and coffee collaborations.
Mostra Coffee at TRU Bankers Hill is expected to open as early as this summer. The new cafe will cater to residents of the new 75 unit apartment complex with a menu of coffee and espresso drinks brewed on a Mavam machine. Signature drinks include the Crème Brulee latte, One Bra-Zillions Coconuts cold brew and Campfire Latte. There will also be a pastry counter and Mostra beans and merchandise available for purchase.
"On January 19, 2021, the Mostra leadership team came together to discuss our biggest projects for 2021," read the announcement posted to Mostra Coffee's social media channels. "With so much business uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we declared that we were not going to expand into any additional retail spaces this year. 13 days after that team meeting, we received an unexpected invitation by H.G. Fenton's CEO, Mike Neal, to check out their brand new 75 unit apartment building, with a retail space on the ground level, as a potential new location. We thought we’d just look, but stick to our plan not to open any more stores this year. Then, the first week of March, we had the privilege of spending time with Mr. Neal learning about this impactful company he leads. He took the time to get to know us, learn about our company/mission, and meet our team. Before we knew it, we found ourselves presented with the most incredible opportunity to work with one, if not the largest, developers in San Diego. This is a company that has been successfully doing business in 'America’s Finest City' for over 100 years, and is a true example of building and growing community. Biggest lesson learned: set goals, but keep an open mind and heart to receive the unexpected blessings. You never know what’s around the corner...
