Local Chefs Unite For One Night To Raise Funds For Family Of Dearly Departed San Diego Chef Anthony Sinsay

June 19, 2021

Last month, the local community received news of the loss of beloved San Diego chef Anthony Sinsay, who passed away following a years-long battle with a rare cancer. On June 28, San Diego chefs will unite for one night and offer Filipino-style bowls for sale to benefit Sinsay's family.

Chef Anthony Charles Sinsay was a San Diego native who was always donating his time and food at charity events during his near decade-long tenure at restaurants around America's Finest City. An esteemed and most talented chef, Sinsay was known for promoting Filipino cuisine and championing local causes, as well as passionately advocating for and supporting local farmers, fishermen and purveyors. On Sunday, May 16, the 37-year-old Sinsay passed away following a two year long battle with a rare cancer called primitive neuroectodermal brain tumor. Sinsay left behind his wife Elyse and two young children.

On Monday, June 28, several San Diego chefs and food purveyors will join together to offer 5 different Filipino-inspired bowls for sale at $12 a piece with all proceeds going to Sinsay's family. Those interested in ordering a bowl are asked to Venmo your order, type of bowl and amount, and preferred pick up time to Cohn Restaurant Group Chef Evan Cruz (@evan_cruz619 - last four digits of cell is 6451) by Saturday, June 26, at 11pm. Pick up will be on June 28, between 2-7pm, at Speciality Produce, located at 1929 Hancock Street, Suite 150, in San Diego's Middletown area.

"Sinsay was everything to me - a best friend, brother,  boss, mentor," commented InterContinental San Diego Chef Ashley Kato. "He had a way of connecting with people unlike anyone else. He would annoy you, and make you love him at the same time. He always spoke the truth even if it bit him in the ass. Hahaha. He was just a special human and one of the best people around. Anyone who knew him was super lucky."

Sinsay's family is also accepting donations via a GoFundMe campaign
