Crack Taco Shop To Bring "Cardiff Crack" To San Diego's Seaport Village

August 11, 2021

The second location of Crack Taco Shop will open as part of the continued revitalization of San Diego's bayfront Seaport Village.

In 2019, part of the crew behind North County San Diego's popular Seaside Market, which is famous for its "Cardiff Crack" smoked burgundy pepper tri-tip, launched modern taqueria Crack Taco in Mission Valley. Owned by Ron Abbo, his brother Steve, and Pete Najjar, who co-owns Seaside Market, Crack Taco serves a variety of tacos and burritos made with high-quality ingredients and fresh pressed tortillas, as well as offers a list of beer, specialty Micheladas, wine and sangria.

As part of the Port of San Diego’s continued successful revitalization of Seaport Village, the Board of Port Commissioners has approved a lease for Crack Taco Shop to open along the promenade in Seaport Village’s Lighthouse District near Spill the Beans. Crack Taco Shop is anticipated to begin construction in spring 2022, with opening anticipated for summer 2022.

"We look forward to our San Diego residents and visitors being able to experience our full menu which includes breakfast as well as our local favorites such as the ballpark tri-tip nachos, tri-tip sandwich, and the famous Crack tri-tip taco," said Crack Taco Shop owner Steve Abbo.

Since the Port assumed ownership and operation of Seaport Village in 2018, eighteen new tenants have signed on and the Port Board has approved investment spending of approximately $7.8 million to date, transforming Seaport Village into a vibrant waterfront shopping, dining, and entertainment center.
With approximately $2.5 million spent for sitewide enhancements, notable improvements include a brand refresh with new signage and exterior painting on the property’s iconic buildings; upgraded amenities like the Urban Beach, a picturesque seating area with Adirondack chairs facing the bayfront vista; flexible furniture throughout; and new, flourishing native plants. Around $1.2 million so far has been put forth to help new tenants renovate their spaces before opening for business.

"We welcome Crack Taco Shop to Seaport Village as another local success story that is expanding its portfolio to our San Diego Bay waterfront," said Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners Chairman Michael Zucchet. "With the addition of Crack Taco to an already diverse lineup of eateries, shops and experiences, Seaport Village is a San Diego hot spot and is in increasingly high demand in the retail and food and beverage markets.”

A buzz-worthy lineup of new tenants now open or opening soon at Seaport Village includes
Asian themed fast-casual Tuk Tuk Eatery (opening August 2021), Southern-style restaurant Louisiana Charlie’s (opening September 2021), farm-to-table Malibu Farm (anticipated opening summer 2022).
Zytoun Gourmet Mediterranean (anticipated opening summer 2022), Old Harbor Distilling Company (anticipated opening summer 2022), Mr. Moto Pizza, Mike Hess Brewing and Quiero Tacos, Sam The Cooking Guy's Samburgers, and Spill the Beans coffee and bagel shop.
