Instagram-Fueled Selfie Social Rebrands After Only Few Months In Business

March 31, 2022

Designed to fuel the Instagram feed as well as the appetite, Selfie Social has rebranded in San Diego after only a few months in business.

Opened just last fall, Selfie Social was a 2,500 square-foot bar & vegan restaurant designed to fuel its customers' Instagram and TikTok feeds. Founded by Virginia native and University of San Diego MBA graduate Alvin Barnuevo, Selfie Social was created as a space where customers of all ages could come together through the power of photography and create the one-of-a-kind selfie within several rooms with interior designs based on social media and fashion trends. All the "selfie rooms" offered their own dedicated studio ring light to give customers the opportunity to take illuminated photos with friends and family.

The Selfie Social website and social media have been unpublished and the restaurant is not answering their phone. We reached out to Barnuevo for comment but did not receive a response, so there is no word why Selfie Social chose to rebrand. Records indicate the space has already been taken over by a new concept dubbed "The Social," which is owned in part by Allen Colaneri and Aaron Wallace, who previously operated now-defunct Blonde Bar in San Diego's Mission Hills area. Expect a more night-focuses establishment with frequent live music and a vegan menu.

The Social is now open at 4411 Mercury Street, Suite 102, in San Diego's Kearny Mesa. Follow the bar on Instagram for more information.
