Convoy Music Bar Brings Upscale Japanese Hi-Fi Experience To San Diego

May 8, 2022

Grand opening this week as part of the new The Taco Stand location in San Diego's Kearny Mesa is Convoy Music Bar, a speakeasy-style cocktail bar modeled after Japan's hi-fi listening bars.

Convoy Music Bar is the product of Shōwa Hospitality, a San Diego-based restaurant collective founded by Julian Hakim and Aram Baloyan that operates such local eateries as The Taco Stand, Himitsu in La Jolla, Shōwa Ramen on the UCSD campus, and many other outside of San Diego. This weekend, Shōwa Hospitality unveiled its newest concept in the space adjacent to its brand new The Taco Stand location off Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa.

Dubbed Convoy Music Bar, the 40-seat space is accessed through a secret entrance in an alleyway behind the plaza that houses The Taco Stand, RakiRaki, and O'Brien's Pub. The concept is inspired by the listening bars of Tokyo Japan, where listen to music mixes through a rare, custom built sound system imported from Japan and played on vinyls. Convoy Music Bar is meticulously designed and features a cocktail program centered around Japanese Whiskey. While there is currently no food offered at the space, Japanese bar snacks will eventually be part of the menu.

Convoy Music Bar grand opens on May 11 at 4646 Convoy Street in San Diego's Kearny Mesa community. For more information and to make reservations, visit convoymusicbar.com and check out the list of rules below.
