Topgolf Swing Suite Lands In Downtown San Diego

June 1, 2022

A Topgolf Swing Suite is now open in downtown San Diego, featuring sports simulators, lounge seating, HDTVs and food & drink service.

San Diego's new Topgolf Swing Suite is located inside the Bayside Lounge at downtown's bayfront Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina hotel. The entertainment venue features three Swing Suite simulators with golf and other sports games, and also offers a space for hosting events like business meetings, parties and more.

Rented either hourly or as a complete buyout of the space, each bay accommodates eight players and offers golf and non-golf games, including target games, carnival classics, hockey, basketball, football and more. The lounge also has ample seating, views of San Diego Bay and plenty of televisions. The Topgolf Swing Suites’ advanced Full Swing simulators let players try their hand at the most famous worldwide courses. Pricing start at $75 per hour per bay. Topgolf Swing Suite offers a 19th Hole menu, featuring a full bar and food menu with items like wings, dips, sandwiches and more.

"We are proud to team with Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina to provide a new kind of interactive social experience that will entertain visitors of all ages and skill levels in San Diego," said Ron Powers, president, Topgolf Swing Suite. "Powered by industry-leading Full Swing simulators, games are designed for both non-golfers and golfers alike, so everyone can have a great time."

Founded outside London in 2000 by brothers Steve and Dave Jolliffe, Topgolf began as a redesigned driving range that uses microchip technology inside golf balls to make driving balls its own unique game. The company is now owned in part by Carlsbad's Callaway Golf Company and currently operates more than 60 locations, most of which also house an event space, restaurants, bars, and multiple entertainment rooms.

In 2019, Topgolf International proposed a $40 million, 68,000 square-foot facility for San Diego's bayfront in the space where the rental car companies were sited before relocating to their new headquarters. The Port of San Diego Commissioners voted 5-1 last night to enter into an exclusive negotiating agreement to discuss a lease on a the 7-acre site on the easternmost area of East Harbor Island. This agreement required the board to waive its standard competitive bidding process, and the parties had until the end of 2020 to finalize a formal lease. Due to the pandemic, the timeline was extended and earlier this year, Port of San Diego officials confirmed that Callaway Golf entered into an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) with the Port for the East Harbor Island land.
