Carruth Cellars Returns To San Diego's Little Italy With New Wine Bar

August 31, 2022

After departing its Little Italy tasting room earlier this year, San Diego's Carruth Cellars Urban Winery is returning to the neighborhood with the opening of a new wine bar at the Carté Hotel.

Carruth Cellars was founded in 2006 by Adam Carruth, a San Diego native with decades-long experience in the wine industry. Over the years, Carruth Cellars has grown to be San Diego's largest urban winery, with tasting rooms in Solana Beach, Carlsbad Village and Little Italy, as well as a production facility in Oceanside where 25,000 cases of wine are bottled annually. The winery has produced 15 award-winning wines as rated by the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, as well as two Gold and four Silver medals for its wines at Sunset Magazine’s International Wine Competition.

This past June, Carruth Cellars shuttered its 5-year-old wine garden on Kettner Boulevard in Little Italy due to an inability to negotiate a lease extension with the building's landlord. But even with the closure in Little Italy, Carruth continued to expand. The company recently opened a new multi-tenant tasting room and production facility in Oceanside dubbed Hangar 76 and also took over a former art gallery space in Liberty Station and unveiled a 10,000 square-foot restaurant and tasting room in Point Loma.

Carruth Cellars will open its newest tasting room on September 1 at the boutique Carté Hotel in Little Italy. Sited steps from the Embarcadero waterfront, the new tasting room will feature Carruth’s award-winning, California-style wines by the glass, flight, and bottle, including Carruth's Lake County Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir Rose, Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, and Paso Robles Grenache. There will also be a food menu with the winery’s signature customizable cheese flights, in addition to exclusive Carté Hotel menu items, including Ahi poke, Cacio E Pepe, and the Carté burger.

Carruth Cellars new tasting room is located at 401 West Ash Street on the base of the Carté Hotel in San Diego's Little Italy. For more information, visit carruthcellars.com.
