Pizza, Beer, Wine & Mead Come Together At San Diego's The Gärten Outdoor Dining & Drinking Destination

September 27, 2022

Pizza, craft beer, wine and mead have come together at The Gärten, a new outdoor food and beverage hall now open in San Diego's Bay Park.

The Gärten is a 2,500 square-foot, al fresco gathering space shared between four San Diego-based food & beverage companies, specifically 5-year-old local craft brewery Deft Brewing, modern mead-making outfit Lost Cause Meadery, wood-fired artisan pizza brand Pizza Cassette, and Lost Cause Meadery's urban winery offshoot Oddish Wine. Inspired by a European biergarten, The Garten offers communal, picnic table seating and will host frequent live music performances, stand-up comedy and entertainment. Customers will be able to grab their food and beverages from any of the four vendors then take a seat in the casual space.

Located between the Lost Cause Meadery headquarters and Deft Brewing, The Gärten is the product of a new ABC law allowing breweries and wineries to co-license space via a smaller patio they both shared. Although the space is currently hosting soft opening hours, The Gärten will officially unveil beginning October 8 with a weekend-long grand opening celebration.
"The vision for The Gärten began two years ago when we saw how much customers loved the shared patio concept we had with Deft Brewing," explained Lost Cause Meadery co-owner Billy Beltz. "Soon after, we started looking into collectively turning the property next door into an outdoor communal space like the biergartens we love in Europe. It's exciting to finally have such a cool outdoor venue shared by all four neighboring businesses, and we hope our fellow San Diegans will enjoy gathering at The Gärten as much as we do."

The Gärten is located at 5322 Banks Street in San Diego's Bay Park neighborhood.
