The team of Buona Forchetta alumni behind Amalfi Cucina Italiana on Lake San Marcos have opened a new all-day Italian wine bar in San Diego's North County.
In late 2020, four Italian friends who previously worked together for San Diego's Buona Forchetta Group of restaurants took over the second story space perched above Lake San Marcos that was built in 2016 to house Eat.Drink.Sleep's Decoy Dockside Dining to open Amalfi Cucina Italiana. Chef Marcello Avitabile is a world pizza champion and was long the executive chef of the Buona Forchetta group. Joseph Serra is a pizza chef that has been honing his craft since he was 13. Giuseppe Annunziata is an experienced general manager who worked for 10 years in San Francisco and is well versed in wine. Lastly, Emiliano Muslija recently moved with his wife from Florence, Italy after owning his own restaurant from a very young age and worked at Buona Forchetta before deciding to join with his friends to open their own restaurant. Upon opening Amalfi Cucina became a hotspot overlooking the picturesque Lake San Marcos.
The Amalfi team recently took over the former Tap In Tavern clubhouse restaurant space at St. Mark Executive Golf Course in San Marcos and completely renovated the space for the opening of Amalfi Enoteca Italiana. Like Amalfi Cucina, expect an all-day Italian/American fusion menu with a large variety of dishes ranging from sandwiches and burger, to daily specials from Chef Marcello, and a fresh meat and cheese display fridge with charcuterie board options offered to be freshly cut and sliced for order. The space has indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar featuring 20 taps of international & local beer and a wine cellar with a large selection of domestic and imported varieties.
