Ambrogio15 Enoteca Brings Wine Room & Specialty Italian Grocery To San Diego's La Jolla

November 27, 2022

The team behind San Diego's Ambrogio15 restaurants has opened Ambrogio15 Enoteca, a wine room and grocery now open in the former Ciao Ciao Piadina space in La Jolla.

Milan-turned-San Diego residents Giacomo Pizzigoni, Andrea Burrone and Luca Salvi opened the flagship Ambrogio15 on Turquoise Street in San Diego's North Pacific Beach community in August 2016. The team expanded in 2018 with a stall within the Little Italy Food Hall and also opened a micro-version of Ambrogio15 within Del Mar Highlands Town Center's 20,000 square-foot, multi-restaurant food hall The Sky Deck. The Ambrogio boys launched new concept Semola Artisan Express Pasta in the Little Italy Food Hall in 2019 but last year relocated the concept to the indoor/outdoor La Jolla space left dormant by the sudden and inexplicable closure of PrepKitchen. Recently, Semola was rebranded into Ambrogio by Acquerello, a tasting menu-exclusive fine-dining destination helmed by a Michelin-starred Italian chef.

Last year, the Ambrogio team opened an Italian sandwich eatery and wine bar in La Jolla called Ciao Ciao Piadina, but they shuttered the business this past June. They renovated the 1,200-square-foot space to become Ambrogio15 Enoteca, a wine and grocery shop with a wine tasting room focused on natural, organic and biodynamic varietals. To compliment the wines, the space also offers a couple charcuterie boards made with very rare cheeses and seasonal cold cuts, as well as specialty items like balsamic aged 30 years, grand cru olive oils, truffles, and more. Ambrogio15 recently won the Best Contemporary Wine List Award in San Diego by Italy’s top food & wine publishing group Gambero Rosso, so they certainly know what they're doing on the wine front.

Ambrogio15 Enoteca is now open at 510 Pearl Street in La Jolla. For more information, visit and check out the menu and new membership packages below.
