Specializing in Colombian coffee beans, Yipao Coffee will soon open its second San Diego location in the Pacific Beach neighborhood, taking over the space that long housed Pasta Espresso.
Founded by native Colombians Maria Bahamon and Jairo Martinez, the first branch of Yipao Coffee opened in 2018 as a cafe attached to Kairoa Brewing Company in San Diego's University Heights. Yipao is the first and only coffee roaster in San Diego dedicated exclusively to promoting Colombian specialty coffee. The word "Yipao" comes from the name of the 4×4 vehicle used by coffee farmers to transport beans through the rugged and steep Colombian mountains.
Yipao Coffee is in the process of taking over the space that last housed Pasta Espresso on the corner of Garnet & Haines in San Diego's Pacific Beach neighborhood. Expect the cafe to serve coffee and espresso drinks made using single-origin coffee beans handpicked in Colombia and roasted in San Diego. There will also be a menu of pastries and breads from nearby Hommage Bakehouse.
Yipao Coffee aims to open as early as January 2023 at 4480 Haines Street in San Diego's Pacific Beach. For more information, visit yipao-coffee.com.
