The team behind TapRoom bar & restaurant and Taproom Brewery have taken over the space that last housed Barrel Republic for the opening of The Collective, a craft beer bar, cocktail lounge and event space.
Brothers Kevin & Kyle Conover opened SD TapRoom at 1269 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach 16 years ago and devoted the bar to the art of craft beer before the concept was cool. In spring 2017, the duo announced plans to launch TapRoom Beer Company, a seven barrel brewery headed by former Mikkeller Brewing brewer Bill Batten, who also had a 15 year tenure at AleSmith Brewing Company. TapRoom Beer Company eventually opened in February 2020. The brothers also own Paper Doll Salon next door to TapRoom in Pacific Beach.
Last year, TapRoom ownership took over the 2,000 square-foot neighboring space that last housed self-serve beer bar Barrel Republic on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach. The self-serve machines have been removed from the space and the bar quietly opened last week as The Collective, featuring draft beer from TapRoom Beer Co., small batch cocktails on tap and a fine selection of wines. TapRoom is tinkering with the idea of launching its food menu for delivery to The Collective in the very near future. The space will also feature entertainment like a variety of board and other games, as well as open mic and movie nights.
