First Urban Margaritaville On West Coast To Open In Downtown San Diego This Summer

March 3, 2023

Downtown San Diego's Hotel Solamar is currently undergoing a $31 million renovation to transform into California's first urban location of Margaritaville Resort, which is set to open this summer.

Located in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, just blocks from Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center, the Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter will feature 235 newly upgraded guest rooms, as well as signature Margaritaville food and beverage concepts that will replace the properties current offerings - the base floor signature JSix restaurant and the Upper East rooftop pool bar.

The Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter will feature spaces reflecting the Margaritaville relaxed state of mind. The former Jsix space will become a Landshark Bar & Grill, while the poolside Upper East bar will become 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar. Both concepts will offer a casual, beachy vibe with a focus on American beach fare and blended cocktails. The lobby will also house a quaint Margaritaville Coffee Shop, which will offer an array of coffee, espresso, tea, and other soft drinks.

Pebblebrook Hotel Trust and Margaritaville Enterprises acquired Hotel Solamar San Diego from Kimpton Hotels in 2018 and have since assisted with the transition along with the resort's current management company Davidson Hotels & Resorts. Davidson Hotels & Resorts will continue to operate the property as Hotel Solamar throughout the renovation and rebranding program. Hotel Solamar will remain fully operational as the renovation continues to move in stages. As of now, the 10th-floor guestrooms, meeting rooms, and 4th-floor rooftop are being worked on.
San Diego's Paradise Point Resort & Spa was previously scheduled to be rebranded into the first West Coast location of the Jimmy Buffett-themed Margaritaville Island Resort, but that property has been plagued by permitting issues since it was announced in 2019. If the transition of Paradise Point Resort into a Margaritaville does eventually go through, which remains unclear, it will be at least a year or more down the road. That project's future is now in the hands of the California Coastal Commission.

Since 1977, Margaritaville has been a global lifestyle brand inspired by the lyrics and lifestyle of singer, songwriter and best-selling author Jimmy Buffett, whose songs evoke a passion for tropical escape and relaxation. Margaritaville features 23 lodging locations with more than 20 additional projects in the pipeline, two gaming properties and over 60 food and beverage venues including signature concepts such as Margaritaville Restaurant, award-winning JWB Prime Steak and Seafood, 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar & Grill and LandShark Bar & Grill.

The new Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is anticipated to open on July 14, at 435 Sixth Avenue in downtown San Diego's East Village. For more information, visit margaritavilleresorts.com/margaritaville-hotel-san-diego.
