San Diego's popular Japanese restaurant Harney Sushi is opening a new branch in Poway, taking over the space previously occupied by Izumi.
Founded by Dustin Summerville and Kirk Harrison in 2001, Harney Sushi has cultivated a loyal following over its more than 20 year tenure. Even as a "fish out of water" in the predominately Mexican-influenced neighborhood of Old Town San Diego, Harney Sushi has earned a reputation for inventive sushi rolls and a stylish "funk shui" environment. In 2008, Harney opened a sister restaurant in the up-and-coming Oceanside neighborhood of North San Diego, which is now owned by Michael Haig. Last year, the original Old Town location was taken over by Sam Azzu, the founder of The Living Room Coffeehouse and Cafe.Michael Haig has teamed up with real estate broker Jesse Sletteland to bring a new location of Harney Sushi to the space currently occupied by Izumi Japanese Restaurant within Oak Knoll Plaza in Poway. Like the Oceanside location, expect Harney Poway to offer a menu of high quality, sustainable sushi with a trendy Neo-Asian inspired décor and a bar featuring beer, wine and sake.
The newest Harney Sushi is anticipated to open at 12245 Poway Road in San Diego's Poway neighborhood as early as this summer. For more information, visit harneyoceanside.com.
