SKA Bar Closes In San Diego's Normal Height And Nobody Knows What's Happening Next

May 10, 2023

SKA Bar & Restaurant recently announced it is "closed for the time being" and rumors are swirling that the 7,000+ square-foot, bi-level Asian-fusion restaurant may not be reopening in San Diego's Normal Heights.

In late 2019, SKA Bar & Restaurant opened in a new mixed-use building in San Diego's Normal Heights neighborhood that also houses 11 luxury apartments. The restaurant is the product of Louie Chau, whose family operates Lotus Garden Chinese restaurant in City Heights. SKA Bar has a 4,500 square foot ground floor dining area with rollup garage door windows and a 40-foot central bar, as well as a 2,600 square-foot rooftop dining space and bar with expansive views over Normal Heights and beyond.

On May 4, SKA Bar took to social media to announce it would be closing "for the time being" without explaining any further. People quickly took to social media speculating on why the restaurant suddenly shuttered right before a usually Cinco de Mayo weekend. Some hypothesized the bar closed due to a liquor license violation, but review of the California ABC records proves that is not the case. Others believe SKA Bar would not be reopening at all. We reached out to ownership for more information and were informed management is still considering what to do with the restaurant.

SKA Bar & Restaurant is located 3250 Adams Avenue in San Diego's Normal Heights. For more information, follow SKA Bar on Instagram
