La Jolla Restaurant Robbed Days After Grand Opening

June 3, 2023

Only a couple days after the grand opening party, a person broke into a La Jolla restaurant and stole its cash register.

Beeside Balcony's new La Jolla location was broken into at around 6am on Saturday, June 3, and a man stole the restaurant's cash register containing about $500 in cash. The man entered the building through the delivery entrance and was filmed on the property's security camera. He was in and out of the restaurant within minutes. Beeside Balcony had just hosted its grand opening festivities on Thursday, June 1.

Mary Arabatzis founded Beeside Balcony in the mezzanine space above what was then PrepKitchen Del Mar in 2016, offering a Mediterranean-influenced menu paired with Pacific ocean views. In January 2020, the restaurant was purchased by Chef Christophe Cevasco, a 3rd generation chef of Spanish and Italian descent with four decades of cooking experience in restaurants around the world, including Le Cirque, Eiffel Tower, and Valentino’s in Las Vegas and locally as a managing partner of Eddie V’s Prime Seafood in La Jolla. In 2021, Chef Christophe found the perfect spot to open a second Beeside Balcony, in the mezzanine, former Sushi on the Rock space in the heart of La Jolla.
"It’s a costly crime," explained Chef Cevasco. "It's not the couple hundred dollars that were in the register, it's the new computer, it's the new register, it's new locks and it's the sense of feeling violated."

Cevasco filed a report with the San Diego Police Department following the incident and also shared screenshots from the security camera footage on Beeside's social media channels. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the San Diego Police and/or Crime Stoppers at 888.580.8477.
Beeside Balcony is located at 1025 Prospect Street, Suite 250, in La Jolla. For more information, visit beesidebalcony.com.
