Los Angeles-Based HomeState Ready To Bring Texas-Style Breakfast Tacos To San Diego

June 22, 2023

A Texas-inspired breakfast taco chain based out of Los Angeles, HomeState is nearly ready to unveil its first San Diego location.

In 2013, Briana "Breezy" Valdez left her job at Thomas Keller's Bouchon and founded the first HomeState eatery in Hollywood, CA, with the goal of sharing her native-Texas upbringing through food and hospitality. Centered around Austin-style breakfast tacos, HomeState now has four locations in the Los Angeles area with several additional outposts in the works.

Next week, HomeState will open open its first San Diego branch within Freeman Collective in South Oceanside, which will also house a tasting room from San Clemente-based Artifex Brewing, an outpost of Blackmarket Bakery, a second location of Leucadia's Corner Pizza and the third branch of Northside Shack. From the 2,900 square-foot space, expect a menu of Lone Star State breakfast tacos made with pasture-raised, Vital Farms eggs, buttery flour tortillas, compassionately and humanely-raised meats from Creekstone Farms, organic chicken, and the brand's signature queso cheese sauce - all named after Texas rivers.

HomeState also offers tacos made in collaboration with bands, including The Ft. Worth by Leon Bridges, which has spicy achiote chicken, Beeler's bacon, lettuce, pico de gallo, tomatillo ranch, pickled jalapeños, on a flour tortilla. HomeState also offers non-breakfast tacos on flour or corn tortillas, egg scrambled "Migas", Frito pie, Texas toast sandwiches, quesadillas, a salad, sides, and chips and dips, as well as a full bar with cocktails, wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks. Based upon the success of the first San Diego branch, more area locations are expected to open around the county in the future.

HomeState will open on Monday, June 26, at 8am, at 510 Vista Way in San Diego's North County city of Oceanside. For more information, visit myhomestate.com and check out the menu below.
